Two hashtags that best describe you

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
A the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic I stepped away from the security of my full time job to launch Bold Ventures. Our work to disrupt traditional philanthropy, and to support impactful leaders in advancing racial equity, was born out of my direct experiences and interaction with philanthropy, and a desire to see this sector work differently.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
I believe happiness is being safe and free from worry – having the freedom to dream and be fully one’s self.

What is your greatest fear?
That we will continue to live in a world where extreme disparities and inequities continue to exist.

At Bold Ventures we are working to advance values of racial justice, equity, and fairness – we hope to see those aim achieved.

Whom do you most admire?
I have deep admiration for all the people who have believed in my dreams and supported them to become a reality.

What are your top tips for balancing work and life?
It can be a challenge, but setting and maintaining boundaries about time is critical for finding balance. At Bold Ventures, we close for the month of August as an opportunity for rest and connection with the people, activities and passions we hold beyond our day to day work. We know that we will return from this time away with a renewed commitment to shift the power, resources and practices of philanthropy towards greater racial equity.

What is something new that you learned about running a business this year?
Our team has grown significantly over the past year and I am learning everyday about what it takes to build an intentional culture of growth and joy.

What is your most marked characteristic?
My curiosity.

What is your greatest regret?
I regret any time when I have missed the opportunity to get to know someone or build a relationship with someone.

What is a legal mistake you wish someone warned you about?
A contract can be an expression of your values and expectations – the more clarity you have when designing a contract the fewer opportunities there are for misalignment in the future.

What advice would you give to yourself at 25 years old?
To celebrate the small accomplishments – there will be lots of big wins ahead, but the small ones are just as important.
